    Lightbulb Reddit Hacked

Hey Reddit users, they announced a hack recently of user data going back to 2007. I am not a user and do not know what kind of information that is stored in profiles, however they are saying you should log in and switch to two-form authentication and secure your accounts.

Reading more about it, the hack does not sound as bad as I thought it could be from a user data perspective. Emails tied to user names seem to be the most information about users that was breached among other read-access only data.

The larger problem that has the IT sector more concerned is that it occurred by an employee's account being hacked though the account was already using two-form authentication, 2FA, for security reasons exactly like this. Their system's 2FA uses an SMS / text message to send a one-time secondary pass code to verify a user. Somehow the text message was compromised.

I have banks that use 2FA over SMS and this is a really big concern. Huge implications. Some companies have an app (like Google) that generates a secondary pass code via the app, but how many apps would you have to install now for more security that was already supposed to be better security to start.

Hacks are always scary. Kind of makes me not want to do a lot of online stuff. But it's so convenient, you know?
