Only 22 years old. Probably the youngest rookie starter in franchise history?

Seriously go look at his picture on espn. Kid looks straight out of high school.

At the end of Spring Training the Rockies played an exhibition game against the Isotopes in ABQ. My wife and I went. Lambert started for the 'Topes and did well. IIRC Blackmon was about 1-3 against him. 'Topes won the game.

Did he look good then? I’m just trying to tamper my excitement and figure out how good his stuff is versus hitters not having much film study on him yet?

              The 9 k’s impressed me.

He pitched five innings against Blackmon, Dahl, Story, Arenado, McMahon, et al. and gave up two earned runs on four hits. The runs were solo homers by Arenado and McMahon. Even though it was just an exhibition game, it was a good performance. He seems promising.

Peter Lambert will probably be a part of the starting rotation going forward. We'll see how many starts it is before ML scouts have a good report on him as he makes his way through ML lineups. The Dodgers are on the horizon and that would be a major test.

At the moment Kyle Freeland is pitching in AAA and Tyler Anderson is on DL. They have pitched well in the past and it's not outside the realm of possibility that one or both could return and be effective. If the current rotation is: Marquez; Lambert; Senzatela; Gray; and, Hoffman, the weakest link would seem to be Hoffman although he is trying.

German is the strongest. We'll see how Lambert does. Jon Gray seems to have more arm talent and athleticism than Antonio Senzatela, but what Antonio has is more mental toughness. I recall a pre-game segment Jenny Cavnar did on Jon Gray in which she spoke with Tony Wolters, the pitching coach and Bud Black and the word they all used for the cause of his difficulties is mental.

We've seen Antonio work his way out of situations with traffic on base that would have overwhelmed Jon in the past. Jon seems easily distracted. He is trying though, and I think it's the mental aspect on which he's focused. If Kyle and Tyler can get back to some semblance of normal, the Rockies may eventually find themselves with a more than adequate number of viable starting pitchers.

Sure would love to more games where we don't give up multiple home runs ....and maybe less strikeouts for rox offense be nice too

Is it time to throw in the towel on Jon Gray?

And half the Rockies rotation, last year we had pitching not much offense now we got some offense and pitching sucks never a happy medium for the Rockies

Hoffman is doo-doo. Not even a fifth starter on most of the teams in the league.

Isn't "Hoffman" pretty much all that is left from our Tulowitzki trade?
