Massive upset in the first round of the playoffs, Mammoth to semi-finals next week

The Mammoth went into Saskatchewan and knocked off the #1 seeded Rush in overtime last night. This is a huge upset for a number of reasons:
    1. The Mammoth backed into the playoffs, losing the last four regular season games (two of which were against the Rush)
    2. The Rush swept the three game regular season series
    3. The Mammoth had NEVER won a game in Saskatchewan
    4. The Mammoth had NEVER won a playoff overtime game
    5. The Mammoth had been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs 11 of the last 12 years

They also trailed 8-5 in the 4th quarter.

The primary reason for their victory was the play of goalie Dillon Ward, who also carried the MLL's Outlaws to the championship last season in the outdoor game.

The Mammoth will play next week at the winner of tonight's Calgary Roughnecks vs San Diego Seals game. The Seals are a surprisingly successful expansion team, the Roughnecks are the Mammoth's mortal enemies. Their Detroit Red Wings or Oakland Raiders (back when those teams were good).

Mammoth will play at the Calgary Roughnecks Friday night at 7:00. Single elimination playoff, winner moves onto the NLL Championship Series (which would be best of 3).

Calgary is their most hated rival, having eliminated the Mammoth from the playoffs eight of the last 11 seasons.

Mammoth will be heavy underdogs, just as they were this previous weekend in Saskatchewan

Mammoth at Calgary tonight for a chance to play in the NLL Championship. Game is live on Altitude at 7:00 PM.

Mammoth have had a hard time scoring all year. They will likely need goalie Dillon Ward to steal this game, just as he did for the Outlaws when he came off the bench last year and carried them to the MLL title.

Mammoth beat Calgary 2 of 3 times this regular season, but as I said before, Calgary has knocked us out 8 of the last 11 seasons.
