Broncos Final 53 Thread (and my prediction)

So I figured this thread starting now is as good a time as any to start as any. Below are my thoughts on who makes it:

    Offense (26)

    Quarterback (3)

    QB1: Joe Flacco
    QB2: Drew Lock
    QB3: Kevin Hogan*

    * I believe that we either target a roster cut or a trade for a QB2/QB3.

With regards to Lock I think the team simply keeps him on the roster and does not IR him.

    Runningback (4)

    RB1a: P.Lindsay
    RB1b: R.Freeman
    RB2: K.Muhammed
    RB3: D.Booker

IR: Designation to return for T.Riddick

**Note** Riddick will end up bumping Booker IMO.

Muhammed can do one of two things for us. He can return & he is one of the rare guys who can sub in for Lindsay when and where needed. I also think he can be used (overtime) as a slot guy and on jet sweeps.

    Fullback (1)

    Jano

I believe that there may be a scenario where we enter this season without Jano on the roster and depending on how he is doing may be one of the other IR's to return guys....

    Wide Receiver (6)

    WR 1: E.Sanders
    WR 2: C.Sutton
    WR 3: D.Hamilton
    WR 4: T.Patrick
    WR 5:J.Winfree
    WR 6. K.McKnight

I believe that K.McKnight will end up being cut as I think we will look to the cuts to fill in the back-end of this group.

    Tight End (4)

    TE 1: J.Heuerman
    TE 2: N.Fant
    TE 3: T.Fumagalli
    TE 4: O.Charles *

    * May be kept especially if Jano is on IR.

The back end of the TE group is also where we may look to pull in from others cuts. This is also another group where we might give Butt one more shot and put him on IR.

    Offensive line (8)

    LT: Garet Bolles, Elijah Wilkinson
    LG: Ronald Leary*, Dalton Risner
    OC: Connor McGovern, Austin Schlottmann
    RG: Elijah Wilkinson, John Leglue
RT: Ja’Wuan James , John Leglue

    * Leary could also well get get

This is the group where I had some of the most trouble with. The right side in PS with Quinn Bailey looked good in run blocking. We could also very well fill in the back end of these spots with guy we like from cuts.

    Defense (24)

    Defensive Line (6)

DE: Derek Wolfe, Adam Gotsis, Dre’Mont Jones, DeMarcus Walker
    NT/DT: Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell

We might take 7 here but I am not 100%

    Inside linebacker (5)

Josey Jewell, Todd Davis*, Alexander Johnson, Joe Jones, Jamal Carter

    * IMO Todd Davis needs to be cut I am just not sure we do it. We may try and trade him. If that happens then I think we either trade or bring someone else in or for the time being keep Keishawn Bierria.

    Outside Linebacker (4)

Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Justin Hollins, Malik Reed

    Cornerback (5)

Chris Harris, Bryce Callahan, DeVante Bausby, Isaac Yiadom, Linden Stephens

    Safety (4)

Kareem Jackson, Justin Simmons, Will Parks, Su’a Cravens

Cravens showed some good play in yesterdays game.

    Special Teams (3)

Brandon McManus, Colby Wadman, Casey Kreiter

I dont think Sua, Carter, or Leglue make it. Sub for Marshall, Bierria, and Sam Jones.

I also do not think Cravens has been solid enough to make this roster, he has missed quite a few tackles. I think we scour waiver wires for a KR and maybe a 5WR though McKnight does run decent routes. WInfree sure was a solid draft pick! Wadman punted a lot better last night.

I do agree I was toying with the idea of 5 WRs. I believe that we will need to keep Muhammed because I do believe that if we cut him he'll be picked up. I also think that if Lindsay is to be that big a part of our offense that having someone who can fill in for portions of what he does will be important. IF we cut Cravens then I think we'd need to scour the waivers and/or perhaps pickup a FA cut at that position. Leluge has a legit shot because of his multi positional play. Jones in the last few games really struggled and that was a concern for me because someone who should make the final 53 should show that against lesser competition they stand out.

Spent most of his rookie year hurt and the rest of it on the sidelines.

High upside. Great deal for us.

Lock may not go on IR because he wouldn't be able to practice until he came off. They may keep him on the roster and when he is fully healthy, release Hogan/other backup QB.

Riddick has a fracture somewhere in his shoulder. He may end up on one of the two IR designations, maybe the non-return one. Lindsay, Freeman, Booker will be on the initial roster. Muhammad could be there, too, especially if he shows returner possibilities.

Scangarello's offense needs a Fullback. Janovich will most likely be on the roster and then added to IR. If/when that happens, they could add Aston or Charles if they think they would be available after cuts. Either might be adequate until Janovich can return.

Only the Broncos have a detailed medical prognosis for Jake Butt's knee. He might be on the roster and then to IR to retain the possibility of a return, or if a more lengthy rehab is required, he might go on regular/non-return IR.

McKnight is a good receiver and could turn into a good K/P returner. They might be able to release him and add him to the roster after other guys go from roster to IR.

Denver will probably scour the waiver wire for O-Line prospects as they have already done (e.g., Bisnowaty, T.Jones) The current top seven seem to be Bolles, Risner, McGovern, Leary, Wilkinson, James and Schlottmann. Sam Jones might make #8 unless a Swing Tackle is found. I had thought John Leglue would be a good candidate for the PS, but he is so versatile and has played so well with a lot of upside that he might possibly make the roster. The coaching staff knows how he has looked in practice against first team D. Wilkinson can play inside or outside. Schlottmann can play any inside spot and is the backup C. Sam Jones is less versatile than Wilkinson, Schlottmann and Leglue. We shall see. It will be interesting.

I, too, expect six D-Linemen: Harris, Gotsis, Wolfe, Walker, Purcell and Jones.

Todd Davis and/or Joe Jones might be on the roster and then moved to IR. Denver knows their prognoses. Jewell and Johnson should be on the roster, and Watson and Bierria might be depending on how they decide to handle Davis and Jones. If the outlook for Davis and Jones is positive, I guess they all might be on the roster.

OLB seems set with Miller, Chubb, Reed and Hollins with the extra benefit of Hollins being able to play inside.

    C. Harris, Callahan, Yiadom and Bausby seem set at Corner. Jackson, Simmons and Parks seem set at Safety. The eighth and/or ninth DB would probably come from Cravens, Marshall, Stephens and Holder, and maybe Johnson. There will most likely be at least eight DBs.

McManus and Kreiter are set as specialists and maybe Wadman, too, unless a clearly better Punter is available after cuts.

The trickiest part of this process will be how many guys Denver wants to put on the roster and then to IR. Guys they want to subsequently add to the roster after those moves would be exposed for a short time although Denver is tenth in line. They can only bring two back from the returnable IR which is a bridge they don't have to cross yet and much can happen in the meantime.

Denver will probably have a pretty good PS to fill out scout team O and D.

Just watched his Florida highlights on YouTube. He looked physical and played both inside and outside:

I didn't go back and watch the HoF game again, and I haven't seen last night's game, but I never saw Cravens miss a tackle in the Sea, SF, or LA games. I would argue he was our best run defending safety in those three games. If you want to argue Parks or maybe Shamarko, I could maybe entertain that, but there's no way Simmons, Dymonte, or Marshall were better against the run than he was in those three games. No way. If Cravens gets cut, I personally think it has more to do with things other than what he's done in the preseason.

His one really bad play in those three games was when he took the corner out early in the LA game, but he was playing the ball the whole way.

EDIT: I see he's been cut now. I guess what it tells me is that what we see in the preseason games doesn't mean much. The staff is with these guys every day in camp, and that's what really matters. I know I'm alone on the Cravens thing, and people think he sucks. I've honestly got no dog in the fight. Just telling it how I see it. And another thing, I don't think he played in the SF game. So, I'm basing this on 2 games, essentially.

Pharoh Cooper cut, he could be a guy worth adding if our special teams needs a decent return man

Gave the patriots a 6th rounder to get a 7th for him. 3 years left for a 2nd round talent is great value.
