Though the line is bad, there have been many opportunities to step up, scramble, etc. If Lock has the goods, there’s a chance he could use some athletic ability and give us a little hope for the future. If the kid simply looks like too much of a project, then the draft gets a little more interesting. The line is what it is. If we want to wait for the Oline to be fixed, then we’ll have to hide our QB on the bench for a couple more years.
Let’s face it, unless we get real lucky in both draft and FA this offseason, the line isn’t gonna be good for a couple of seasons. Even if they are able to fix it in the offseason, I still think Lock needs as much evaluation as possible so we can have a clearer picture of the draft.
If James can stay healthy the line isn’t too far from being decent. Slide Wilkinson inside to RG. He struggled some at RT but works hard and has upside. Draft a LT using the first or second pick. Risner was a good pick, likely recommended by Scott DiStefano/Bryan Chesin. Let those two have a shot at picking the next LT. This was McGovern’s first season at center, give him off season and camp to hone skills and he might be fine.
I imagine that with only 32 positions available, the Broncos would be able to find someone to coach the team. It may not be a "hot", well-known candidate but they'd find someone.
The bigger issue is the fact that if you fire Fangio and hire someone else, that would be 4 head coaches in 5 seasons. You can't build anything sustainable nor retain credibility with players moving coaches in and out at that pace. You have to be patient with the coaching staff and give them at least 3 years to build this up. Look at how that's paying off in San Francisco.
I voted QB simply because it is a single position and we have a chance to put in Lock this season and see if he's the guy. O-line is also a huge priority, but it involves several replacements and will need to be addressed in the offseason. We can at least get a look at the QB position this season.
