more comfortable: jeans or dress slacks?

having begun to wear dress pants with some regularity over the past few years i've come to question the belief, seemingly held by many americans, that blue jeans are the "comfortable pant." it seems to me that dress slacks are, in fact, a lot more comfortable than blue jeans. whereas jeans are heavy and stiff (for the first few years anyway), dress pants are light and loose. then i went to taiwan and noticed everyone from dudes picking up the trash (they used dumb-bikes . . . as opposed to dump-trucks) to guys fishing on the side of the road wearing dress pants.

so how come we wear jeans when we want to dress comfortable?

any teenagers out there want to get on the front of an intelligent trend? start wearing dress pants all the time. i'm telling you, the other kids will think you're cool and even if they don't you'll be more comfortable than they are.

I wish I would have noticed it was a multiple choice poll before I posted. I would have also given a vote to jeans. Jeans aren't nearly as tight around the waist as dress slacks, and you never have to worry about them getting dirty. Also, Old Navy has some that are REALLY comfortable.

Make that 5 of us in this state. The kids and the wife scream for the Broncos just as loud as I do, and they didn't grow up in Denver like I did. Although I'd have to say I follow different college and NHL teams than you do. Go Green, Go Avs.

Sorry bout the ramble off subject...........go jeans.

Nothing is more comfortable than a nice pair of linen pants.

I have these pair of jeans that I've probably worn hundreds of times and have only washed them a dozen times...if that. The trick with jeans is they don't get comfortable until you wear them a few times after washing. I even lived in them one weekend when I was out of town. It was a lazy vacation at a friend's house and when I wasn't in my baggies at the beach I was in my jeans...slept in them, took them off right before my showers and put them on right after.

    indeed. well thanks for that.

i can see there's no chance of winning you all over. as to tightness on the waste, that, of course, depends on what size you purchase. and as far as worrying about getting slacks dirty, that's just a state of mind (the man fishing in dress pants obviously wasn't worried about getting them dirty).

I don't wear dress pants too often, so I wouldn't know, but aren't dress pants WAY more expensive than jeans? (Not the designer jeans that are torn up and sell for $60. That is just weird.)

Sort of a spin-off, but what is up with those people (kids mostly) that pay SO MUCH money to look poor? Bugs the hell outta me...
