Anyone think a playoff win to loss ratio is a little misleading?

If you think about it a team can only get on playoff loss per season yet they can get 2-3 wins and still lose the superbowl. I was just thinking when ever you see this stat like "Coach Joe Smoe is 35-8 in the playoffs" while that means they sent 35 teams home that also means that their season was ended 8 times.

I almost think that wins to losses in the playoffs should be counted as a 3-1 ratio as you need at least 3 wins to win the superbowl.

With teams swapping up to 30% of their players/coaches per season how can that ratio be anything but misleading? How many players/coaches does Joe Gibbs have from his SB days? I highly doubt there are any players left though I think he brought back a coach or two if I'm not mistaken.

Not only does your team change so much year to year but the other teams are changing as well. The game is constantly evolving.

In my opinion the only real stats that are worth anything are the situational DVOA trends. I would like to say the W-L record is statistically meaningful but it can be really skewed by the strength of schedule.

I just mean the most losses you can recieve in the post season is one. That it is easier(Not saying the teams are easy) to build up your win total than your loss total.

Good thoughts. It is misleading when the media uses this stat and we had to listen to it over and over again as we awaited the Patriots. "10-0" in the playoffs. When in reality that was only 3 seasons worth. It sounds like so much more.

This is another reason why I can't stand stats and trends.
