For most of the game he looked like everything was much too fast for him and he looked confused for most parts. his good scrambling ability saved him from being a complete disaster.
at the point of game when he came in was stictly to run the time off an dnot turn the ball over. We cant really judge him on that game.

Am I saying he can be a franchise QB.. NO

He didn't look good though and also agree he could not focus on the WR's because of game speed.

Huh? I love it here, I have no issues with the town I chose to live in! Where would you get that? Plus I am older then BVP, we did not play together! I played College Football the same time Plummer did! And not here, I played in a big time conference...

just be playful is all. I dont think your viewpoint is accurate of van pelt. Sorry but if he was this *insert what you called him* then he wouldnt be in the league still. He definitely wouldnt have been the backup last year over mauck and kanell. Kanell I might add showed he could be a competant #2 yet was cut in favor of BVP.

Do you know Van Pelt? Plummer? So far the only two quarterbacks to wear the uniform I have not met in the last decade was Kannell and Mauck, the rest I have. But you do not have to be a brain surgeon to play ball, did you ever think that Pelt was reasonable enough and just played well enough to surpass Mauck another 7th rounder and Kannell who was a bust overall, but viable? Van Pelt may be in your mind in a good backup quarterback, but he will never be a starter, not ever.

Actually I have a weird feeling Denver will have three quarterbacks, two on the final roster: Cutler and Plummer, Parsons or someone else will be on the practice squad and available if called upon...maybe even the enept Van Pelt!

I'm pretty sure you and I saw the same game because that's exactly what I remember.

    Time will tell....

No need to over analyze and base Van Pelts ability on the on one quarter of NFL football.

I think Van Pelt will continue to get better. He will make it tough for Cutler to nab the #2 spot. We will have to see when the season starts what happens.

Van Pelt is a retard - the NFL version of 'Forrest Gump'
Then Shanahan is retarded as well for moving him to #2. Bradlee has a never quit never fail attitude, and the organization knows that.

The QB battle this summer will make the guys better and the players around them.

I can't wait to see what happens. But unil then, before Van Pelt really screws up, there is no need to bash him.

Just take a look at my avy...

Cutler over BVP without a doubt.

And, CalifBronco had it right. If BVP was working out, Shanny wouldn't have moved up to get Cutler.

Having the "fight" is one thing, but no matter how determined he is, that can't overcome pure skill, so long as the more talented party has some "drive" as well, (which there is no denying Cutler has.)

Cutler will win the job, if BVP even makes the final cut (which I am not so sure he will). Athletic ability will only get you so far as a QB if your arm is sub-standard.

Ok, first of all, a little perspective please...

A: He's our #1 draft pick, it is common among fans to speculate how our #1 draft pick will play, and how we think he will do.

B: We are not discussing how he will take us to the Superbowl, we are discussing whether or not he is good enough to be our BACKUP.

So either it is common practice where you are from to rub the (privates) of the BACKUP. Or you are so freaked out about Jake having to look over his shoulder that you are lashing out.

Bottom line is it's speculation... Lighten up.
God Bless D. Williams and D. Nash. May their family and friends find peace in knowing that they were both truly loved by all. And they shall never be forgotten.

2 for 8, more yrds rushing than passing. What did see that no one else saw? He was worse than pathetic. That performance might have promted the Broncos to take Cutler in the first place. You people need to get over this Van Punk
experiment. Because IT sure as heck is OVER. I've never seen Cutler play and I can almost garauntee he'll be better from day one. I will never understand you peoples fasination with Van Punk. Make mine Cutler, or anybody but Van Pelt.
Keeping Van Pelt as Plummers back-up last year was a monument to stupidity. (As well as, further proof of Shanahans megalomania). He will not make the team this year.

Good point but at the same time lets not make him into something he's not.

The last I saw of Van Pelt he didn't look like qb that has shown improvement.

All it means is that Denver didn't have any better options at the time. Also at the start of free agency Denver was looking for a veteran qb to back up Plummer. His grittiness is a great quality but it doesn't mean he can preform.

Not that I agree with name calling of any of our players but Van Pelt has already screwed up. He might not be sitting behind the eight ball had he not laid the proverbial egg against the Chargers in our finalgame of the season.

Cutler hasn't done anything at the NFL level. Ryan Leaf had all the measureables (better than cutler too) and he couldn't put it together at the next level. Van Pelt has shown steady improvement and he works hard at what he does. I love his attitude, he's a competitor and if you think he will just roll over for Cutler, think again. As much as I like Cutler, I am rooting for Van Pelt, because the guy has that spark that not many people have. He has already said, "Don't bet against me." and I won't. That the spirit you have to love, and his running ability is great as well, he just needs to work on slowing the game down and becoming more accurate, I think he will be with the Broncos for a long time. He may be the next Beuerlein, Garcia, Flutie or Delhomme, who weren't successful until later in their careers. I think he really has something special to offer the Broncos, and I wouldn't count him out just yet. A 7th round pick vs. A first round pick, David vs. Goliath, Top Prospect vs. Virtual Unknown, call it what you want, but there will be a battle. Van Pelt has a chip on his shoulder and trust me, he's looking over it as well.

Cutler will probably enter camp at number 3, but I can't imagine that at some point he earns #2, and quickly. Whether that is before or during the season is immaterial.

Of course, this is provided he even remotely lives up to all he is supposed to be.

BVP is the perfect back up QB. Wants to improve, will work toward being the starter, and plays as if it matters. Doesn't cop an attitude with the coaches or starting QB or lobby teammates to be the starter, thus hurting locker romm chemistry (unlike a certain ESPN analyst, who has an ego bigger thah Jupiter).

But based on what little I have sen of both, I believe that all other things considered equal, Cutler simply has more natural ability.
