    Bad News!!

Rockies' Buchholz out 4-6 weeks with elbow injury

TUCSON The Rockies bullpen has suffered a major blow. Right-hander reliever Taylor Buchholz, who emerged last season as one of baseball's most reliable set-up men, said today that he'll miss the rest of spring training because of what he called a "sprained right elbow."

"This is tough, really though," Buchholz said this morning, his right elbow encased in ice. "I came in really confident and in very good shape. We'll just have to see what happens from here."

Buchholz had an MRI Wednesday night and it confirmed that he will likely be out from 4-6 weeks.

"The good news is that I don't think I'll have to have surgery," he said.

Buchholz said the injury occurred in his first Cactus League game on Feb. 26 against the White Sox. The elbow has not improved since.

"I felt it grab when I was throwing a curveball," he said. "I have never felt that before."

Buchholz came into camp with a sore back, the result, he said, of throwing off a hard mound in the offseason near his home in Pennsylvania.

"I don't know, maybe my back altered my delivery a little," he said.

Buchholz said he felt some tenderness in his elbow after an early bullpen session in spring training, but thought it was tendonitis.

Buchholz, 27, became the Rockies' primary set-up man last season. A good fastball and a dominant curveball led to a 6-6 record with a 2.17 ERA, the fourth-lowest ever by a Rockies reliever.

    I need cake.

    Good news on the losses:

Every pitcher (outside of Cook one time) has only been allowed to pitch fastballs. No breaking pitches or off-speed. Cook that one time (the time he got rocked) was only allowed to pitch off-speed pitches.

With the bats, they are all ordered to lay off the first pitch, even if it is underhand.

It sounded like Hurdle is ready to get back to baseball now though, and so hopefully we should get some wins mixed in by the time I head out to Tucson.

You've got to be kidding me. Save that crappola for the inter-squad games.

We're no longer 0 & 8. Rox won Fri vs the Padres 13 to 11, Sat vs the Giants 9 to 7 & Sun vs the Padres again 4 to 2.

BTW: If anyone has the MLB Network the next team they focus on during their "30 teams | 30 days" will be the Colorado Rockies at 5PM EST, check your local listings for time & channel.
