Shanahan agrees to 3-Year Extension (April article)

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...tm?POE=SPOISVA

DENVER (AP) ó Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him in Denver through the 2011 season.
Shanahan, 54, led Denver to Super Bowl victories in 1997 and 1998. Since becoming head coach in January 1995, he has led the Broncos to seven playoff appearances and a 123-69 regular-season record, best in the NFL over that span.

Though he's had just one losing season, in 1999, following John Elway's retirement, Shanahan has just one playoff win in the past eight seasons.

Team owner Pat Bowlen announced the extension Monday in a news release.

After failing to make the playoffs last season, Shanahan has overseen another major roster makeover this offseason.

I think Shanny NEEDS to be here now that we have ELway 2.0 in our life. I mean, one year and then booting em is not good, you look at a lot of young QB's with new coaches and new coaching STAFF, it's rough...weather they admit it or not. Not every team can win the SB every year, I think Shanny is well into building a dominant team with our roster, if he can KEEP 75% of them together for 2 seasons, we'll be solid! But yes, I wanna keep SHanny for all of these 3 years and THEN evaluate him

I don't know if he has to win one but he'll definitely need to get close a couple times. Even though he's a great coach, 1 playoff win since 1999 isn't what Broncos fans expect.

A Super Bowl win would obviously be ideal but even another AFC Championship Game or two would probably be enough to keep Bowlen happy. Now that Shanny has his "franchise" QB again, he needs to have a little more playoff success.

Bowlen took care of Mike's contract back in April, hardly news worthy in August; less than a week away from the Broncos 1st pre-season game.

Yes, the article quoted is from April. I'm not sure why it's popping up now...

    Alright. Makes sense then.
Because I remember him signing it a while back and I was listening to it on Sirus.

    Oh well.

When I was new to the site I posted a 3 month old article.
